League plans meeting

Nomination deadline today

The nomination-petition deadline for members seeking candidacy in the Homer Electric Association's 2004 board of directors election is 5 p.m. today in the Homer office. Parenting workshop set

The Kenai Peninsula Community Care Center will offer an eight-week parenting workshop titled "Active Parenting of Teens" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Central Peninsula General Hospital in the Iliamna room. Community science evening planned

The Soldotna Community Schools will sponsor a science evening with the Imaginarium and Allan Miller, a NASA educator astronaut finalist from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Redoubt Elementary School. Exhibits, activities and demonstrations from the Imaginar-ium as well as a presentation by Miller are some of the scheduled activities. This event is funded in part by Unocal. Peace choir slide show scheduled

The International Peace Choir will show slides of its trip to Cuba at 7 p.m. today in the Kenai Peninsula College commons. There is no charge. For more information, call 262-0434.

Kids invited to cheer camp

The Skyview High School cheerleaders will hold a cheer camp for K-8 grades Saturday at the school. Registration is from 9 to 10 a.m. Cost for camp is $30.

Young women's conference slated for Saturday

Soroptimist International of the Twin Cities will present its ninth annual Young Women's Conference for girls in sixth through eighth grades from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Solid Rock Camp in Soldotna. Cost is $10; scholarships are available. The theme of the conference is "Inside Out." There will be presentations on conflict resolution, peer mediation and "the three Cs -- charm, carriage and character." In addition, there will be a fashion show, and girls will have the opportunity to learn skin care and color analysis. Girls also can enjoy kickboxing with Cannetta Salmon. A special guest will be Brittany Gardner, a student at Soldotna High School, and the second runner-up in the 2004 Alaska Junior Miss program. It was incorrectly reported earlier that Kaitlin Vadla, the winner of the 2004 Alaska Junior Miss title, would be at the conference. To pre-register, call Paula Rohloff at 260-4917. Church to hold dinner

The 24th annual AFS Inter-national Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. Dinner featuring foods from eight countries will be served. The proceeds will benefit the foreign exchange student program. Tickets are $15 each and are available at the Kenai Public Library and River City Books. Nikiski talent show slated

The annual Nikiski talent show will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Nikiski High School auditorium. The show will feature the talents of area residents.
