Kenai's Hansen turns in all-star performance

Morgan Hansen of Kenai, a freshman at Alma College in Alma, Mich., has been named to the 2002 all-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's swimming and diving team.

Hansen won won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at the MIAA Championships, scoring 392.05 points for 10 dives in the 1-meter competition and 406.65 points for 11 dives in the 3-meter competition.

Hansen's point total in the 1-meter event meets the qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

"She really stepped up to the plate," Alma head coach Greg Baadte said of Hansen's performance at the MIAA meet. "She put together an unbelievable set of dives tonight. For a freshman, that's amazing. She was really composed. I was more nervous than she was."

Hansen's marks are both Scots freshman records. Hansen is the second Alma athlete to win both women's diving events at the same conference meet.
