Art designs solicited

The Seward Chamber of Commerce announces the annual artwork design contest for the Mt. Marathon Race. Participants are asked to submit a design to be used on the t-shirts, pins and finishers' patches. The design must fit on an 8.5-inch-by-11-inch sheet and have four-color printing capabilities. The artist of the chosen design will receive $100. The deadline to submit a design is March 14. For more information, call 224-8051.

Gallery soliciting bead works

The Fireweed Gallery in Homer is accepting submissions for the "We Bead VII" exhibition in April. The show is open to bead and fiber artists at all skill levels and has been expanded to include embellished fiber works. The entry deadline is March 24. Author visits Kachemak Bay campus

The visiting author for the semester at the Kachemak Bay Campus of the Kenai Peninsula College will be Brett Lott. He will meet with students as a guest lecturer at the campus' writing classes. Lott is the author of the novels "The Man Who Owned Vermont," "A Stranger's House," "Reedis Beach," "The Hunt Club," and the best-selling novel and Oprah Book Club pick "Jewel."

Fine arts camp accepting registrations

The Sitka Fine Arts Camp is accepting registrations for the 2003 camp. The two-week camp will be held at the Sheldon Jackson College campus in Sitka from June 16 to 30 and is open to students in grades seven through 12. The camp provides students the opportunity to take classes and study with professional artists in the areas of dance, theater, music, Alaska Native arts, writing and visual arts. Space is limited, so early registration is advised.

Pratt Museum solicits fiber arts pieces

The Pratt Museum in Homer is accepting entries for a thematic fiber art exhibit which reflects Alaska's glaciers and volcanoes to accompany a "Fire and Ice: Photographs by Brad Lewis and Carmen Field" show. The submission deadline is July 7 and the show will open July 11. Large and unusually shaped work and collaborative pieces are accepted. The fiber art pieces will be displayed in several areas of the museum. For more information, call Gale Parsons at (907) 235-8635 extension 36.

Play conference taking submissions

Plays are being accepted for the play lab and the 10-minute play development workshop in the 11th annual Last Frontier Theatre Conference, held June 20-29 at the Prince William Sound Community College in Valdez.

Ten-minute plays are being accepted. Play writers may submit only one play. Submissions must include a cast list with brief character descriptions, a title page with the author's name, address, phone number and e-mail address, three copies of the script and a biography (100 words for full-length plays and 50 words for 10-minute plays) and photo of the author for publication in the program booklet.
