Community talent show planned

Auditions for a community talent show will be held from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. today in the Green Room at Kenai Central High School. The show is open to all ages. Rotary raffle offers hope

The Rotary Club of Soldotna will hold a raffle fundraiser to benefit Project HOPE and home construction for 10 families in Nicaragua. Two hundred tickets will be sold for a chance to win a 50-inch, big-screen plasma TV. The drawing will be held today. For more information, call Chuck at 953-2560.

Democracy to be discussed

The Friday Dialogue series continues with a discussion on "Can Democracy Survive Corporate America?" Friday in the commons at Kenai Peninsula College. A community potluck will be held at 6:30 p.m. and at 7 a short video will be shown to launch the discussion.

Friday Community Dialogues are co-sponsored by The Roundtable: Center for Mediation and Community Dialogues and the KPC Student Union. Its purpose is to bring people in the community together in safe forums for listening, speaking and learning. For more information, call Chris Gehrett at 262-0367.

Excellent teachers sought

The BP Teachers of Excellence Program deadline for nominations is Friday. The program recognizes exceptional teachers throughout Alaska. Anyone may submit a nomination for the outstanding educators in their school by filling out a form at Alaska.bp.com. The outstanding teachers are eligible for a $500 gift card for classroom resources and each area's local Teacher of the Year receives a $1,500 scholarship for continuing education.

Scholarships offered

The following groups and organizations are offering scholarship opportunities:

* KBEA Deadline is March 31. The Kenai Borough Employees Association is offering three $500 scholarships to all 2008 graduates from the Kenai Peninsula Borough including, public, private and home-school students. Applications are available from any high schools counselors' office, at the information desk at the Borough Building in Soldotna or at www.borough.kenai.ak.us. Applications may be mailed or dropped off at the Kenai Peninsula Borough, KBEA Scholarship Committee, 144 N. Binkley St., Soldotna AK 99669.

* Labor Council The deadline is April 1. The Kenai Peninsula Central Labor Council is offering four $500 scholarships to 2008 peninsula high school graduates from union families. The school also must be accredited. Applications should be sent to Labor Council, P.O. Box 1162, Kenai, AK, 99611.
