Dora Ann (Mair) Nelson

Longtime Alaskan Dora Ann (Mair) Nelson died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at her home with her family by her side after battling breast cancer. She was 54.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 9, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kenai. Bishop Brant Ellis will officiate. Additional services will be held in Utah. She will be laid to rest in the family plot at the Midway City Cemetery in Midway, Utah.

Mrs. Nelson was born May 31, 1954, in Heber City, Utah. She married Bobby LaRoy Nelson Jan. 7, 1972, in the Salt Lake City Temple. She moved with her family to Alaska on July 23, 1985, residing in Kenai. She worked for the Tesoro 2 go Mart from 1999 until 2009.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kenai. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family and grandkids.

"She will be missed by many. She touched so many people. She was a great wife, mother and grandma, not only to her family, but also her friends," her family said.

"I remember when I called Grandma and Grandpa, Mom and Dad and when we went to see her mom in Wyoming. I also remember when I told her I was sad, she said, 'I love you,'" said her granddaughter "Pooh Bear."

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her husband of 37 years; daughters, Julie Mullins and her husband, Don, Lisa Nelson and her husband, Larry, Crystal Nelson, Emma Nelson, Ada Nelson and her husband, Ray Johnston and Diane and Hailey Nelson all of Kenai; son, Sonny Nelson and his wife, Darcy, of Anchorage; granddaughters, Savana Tomrdle and Delaina Mullins; grandsons, Dalton, Dustin and Dwyght Mullins and Quintin and Vincint Johnston, all of Kenai; parents, Leslie and Verleen Mair of Lyman, Wyo.; brothers, Jim Baker and his wife, LeAnn, of Roosevelt, Utah, Dale Baker and his wife, Donna, of Heber, Ralph Mair and his wife, Sue, of Mt. View, Wyo., and Jesse Mair and his wife, Val, of Lyman, Wyo.; sisters, Nona Smits of Lehi, Utah, and Diane Richardson and her husband, Mike, of Mt. View; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the family, C/O First National Bank of Alaska, account No. 70545736, 11408 Kenai Spur Highway, Kenai, AK 99611.
