Community response helps tsunami victims

Posted: Monday, March 07, 2005

I would like to thank the many people who helped with the community response to the earthquake and tsunami in South Asia. Thanks to Mrs. Susan Wheeler for donating a quilt, won by Mrs. Mary Decker, and the contribution to Hospice of the Kenai Peninsula that resulted from the ticket sales. Thanks to the students at Skyview High School who brought in the bake sale items that resulted in the donation to Kenai Peninsula Food Bank.

Thanks to the workers from and donors to the Alaska Red Cross, which provided more than 20 pints of blood to help injury and illness victims. Thanks to everyone who brought in garage sale items resulting in the donation to Rotary International.

Without the assistance of Mrs. Sandra Lewis and the Skyview Student Council and administration, the four events could not have happened. Workers included Wanda Van Buskirk, Daryl Leach, Maria Reeve, Tawyna Barrickman, Mary Hutchison, Sandra Lewis and many other young adults from the community. At the end of the garage sale, more than 40 boxes of clothing, shoes and knickknacks were provided to worthy groups in the community.
