Area students honored

  Larry Porter Jr.

Former Soldotna resident Josh D. Brantley was named to the dean's list at Valley City State University in Valley City, N.D.

To be named to the list students must have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, based on a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Former Soldotna resident Jennifer Senette was named to the president's list at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.

To make the list a student must earn a 3.7 GPA or better. Sennette is the daughter of Brent and Lynn Senette.

Former Kenai residents Paul A. Kendall and John E. Rooper were named to the dean's list at North Carolina State University.

To be named to the list, a student must carry 12 credit hours and have a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Kendall is a freshman majoring in engineering and is the son of Ross and Ann Kendall.

Rooper is majoring in nuclear engineering and is the son of Donna and Malcolm Rooper. He is a 2003 Nikiski High School graduate.

Former Kenai resident Nathan Smith was named to the dean's list at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

To be named to the list, a student must have a 3.5 GPA or higher.


Sally and Richard Oelrich

Oelrichs called to serve

Soldotna residents Sally and Richard Oelrich were recently called to serve as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The couple will serve a 18 month mission, beginning March 14, in the Belgium Brussels-Netherlands Mission for the church.

They will work in the church education system.

Richard is a retired plant supervisor from Agrium and Sally is a retired Kenai Peninsula School district teacher.

Porter promoted

Former Kenai resident Larry Porter Jr. was promoted to the rank of major in the U.S. Army. He currently is stationed in Vicenza, Italy.

His parents are Larry Sr. and Pat Porter.
