Help appreciated in fuel spill matter

Posted: Tuesday, March 07, 2006

The Sterling Community Coalition Group would like to thank Rep. Mike Chenault and Sens. Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski for intervening in the Zip Mart fuel spill litigation on behalf of the affected property owners of Sterling.

The SCCG was informed of the adversarial stance the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation had taken toward the landowners. A letter was crafted and unanimously approved by the SCCG directors and sent to all the parties involved. Our elected officials responded by contacting the ADEC in support of the Sterling landowners. An initial settlement was reached that was far better for our neighbors living above the fuel plume than the ADEC had originally deemed appropriate.

Due to the ongoing litigation the original letter cannot be released at this time.
