Skyview to host parent night
The Skyview High School will host eighth-grade parent night at 7 p.m. March 14 in the library. Parents of incoming 2006-07 freshmen are encouraged to attend. The topics will include curriculum, programs, policies, procedures, activities and athletics that the school has to offer.
School counselors will travel to Soldotna Middle School the morning of March 14 to pass out preregistration information to eighth-graders planning to attend Skyview next year.
Students attending schools other than SMS are asked to stop by the high school to pick up a packet.

Genealogical society plans events
The Totem Tracers Genealogical Society will host its Resource Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. this week at Kenai Community Library. It also will meet at 6:30 p.m. March 21 at the library.

Amnesty International presentation slated
Jennifer Harbury and other representatives from Amnesty International will speak at noon Thursday at the Bridges Community Center in Soldotna. The topic will be “Truth, Torture and the American Way.”

Social Security Administration representatives will be on the Kenai Peninsula from noon to 4 p.m. March 22 at Kenai City Hall and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 23 at the Homer Senior Citizens Center.

Volunteer drivers needed
The Kenai Veterans Center is seeking interested community members to drive its van Tuesdays or Thursdays to Anchorage. The center provides rides to veterans to the VA Medical Center.

The Office of Children’s Services offers the monthly resource family orientations to give interested individuals a brief overview of the state’s foster care and adoption programs and process.

Coed martial arts classes are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center.
