Top Shelf

Members of the Meeks family and staff from the Kenai Community Library mingle during a public ceremony to present the Francis Mae Meeks memorial collection to the library Monday night. Meeks, a long-time volunteer at the library, passed away earlier this winter. Money that was donated to the Friends of the Library in her name was used to purchase about 40 books about photography, one of her passions. A portion of the collection lines the shelf in the foreground. Library director Ewa Jankowska selected the diverse collection. "I tried to cover the history of photography, the techniques, some famous photographers and some books about photographing nature, as that was what Francis was most interested in," Jankowska said.
