ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Two new hotels are in the works for one of the last large tracts of undeveloped land in Midtown Anchorage.
Developers hope the hotels will attract restaurants, offices and perhaps some retail stores to fill out the rest of the property.
The first hotel is a 125-room Hilton Garden Inn. Construction of the four-story property is scheduled to begin this summer, with opening next year, officials said.
Another 100-room hotel is planned for a nearby area. Representatives of that developer declined to reveal its name.
The properties would be the latest in a string of newly built hotels around Anchorage. Eleven hotels have opened in the past few years, adding more than 1,700 rooms.
Developers said they believe the city's economic future is bright and that there's plenty of business to go around.
