WASHINGTON (AP) -- Bishop Curtis Guillory has been appointed leader of the Roman Catholic Apostleship of the Sea in the United States of America.

The Apostleship of the Sea is the church ministry to seafarers, fishermen, and people who work in ports, on oil rigs and on platforms.

Guillory, head of the Diocese of Beaumont, Texas, will help oversee the work of 150 chaplains who work in ports throughout the country. He has three chaplaincies in his diocese: Beaumont, Orange and Port Arthur.

Guillory was ordained a bishop in 1988 and was installed as bishop of Beaumont last July.
