By the time those mighty Kenai River Kings start returning to their spawning grounds this year, Mike Richardson, of Cast Away Outfitters in Sterling, will have his first shipment of an all new pontoon fishing boat designed by Dave Scadden especially for sport fishing on the Kenai River. Richardson will be the statewide Alaska distributor for the new Kenai River Special, "This is an inflatable pontoon craft that is extremely sturdy with a 700 pound load capacity and white water rated and will fold up into a rolling suitcase or duffel 32"X 20"X11" for easy use on fly outs," said Richardson. Dave Scadden is a world renowned pontoon boat designer and manufacturer. The Kenai River Special is primarily a drift boat but can have a motor mounted, "Not a 55 horse power motor of course, but a smaller motor mounts quite nicely for added power, but it is primarily a drift boat that is extremely maneuverable on the river. You can easily anchor on the upper Kenai if you're trout fishing, pull the leaning bar up over your head and a standing platform comes out that you can stand and site cast from, or the platform retracts for seated casting and fishing," explained Richardson.

Richardson became interested in the Scadden vessel while attending sport fishing shows in the Southeast to promote his Cast Away luxury cabins in Sterling on the Kenai River. "I struck up a friendship with Dave Scadden and we worked out an opportunity to bring his boats to Alaska. We're very excited about the arrival of our first shipment of the Kenai River Special. I plan on putting the first one in the River myself as soon as the ice is out and then we'll have them for anyone who wants to put in the back of their car and take one home or wherever they want to an Alaskan fishing adventure. I think we'll see quite a few on the Kenai this summer," said Richardson.
