Margaret Evelyn McGahan

Longtime Nikiski resident Margaret Evelyn McGahan died of cancer Thursday, March 6, 2003, surrounded by some of her children and grandchildren at her homestead residence.

A memorial service will beheld at 4 p.m. today at Nikiski Middle-Senior High School with a potluck following the service. Pastor Virgil Redmond will officiate. A private burial will take place at the McGahan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Wayne Davidson, Terry McGahan, Rich McGahan, Nick McGahan, Michael Broussard and William Broussard.

Mrs. McGahan was born April 20, 1917, in Holland, Mich. She, her husband, Ken, and their children came to Alaska from Michigan in 1955. She was known for her garden, homemade Raggedy Ann dolls, love for a good card game, Fourth of July pies and generous hospitality. She also enjoyed gold panning and traveling.

"Throughout Margaret's life, her faith in our Lord Jesus Christ has never wavered, even amidst the hardships of life. She inspired us all with her faith, and had a heart that loved unconditionally, which is a rare gift. We will miss her wonderful cooking, as everyone knew the best time to show up was dinnertime. She leaves behind many, many friends, and family members," her family said.

Mrs. McGahan was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth McGahan; son, Marvin McGahan; grandson, Kenny McGahan; great-grandson, Andy McGahan; great-granddaughter, Bayou Broussard; brothers, Victor, Clare, Franklin, Donald, John, Alfred and Christian Orr; and sisters, Valda Kilgore, June DeLong, Onilee Vincent and Effie Orr.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Francis and Ila Davidson and Norman and Lois McGahan of Sun City, Ariz., Richard and Karen McGahan, Jack and Betty McGahan, Dale and Donna McGahan, Elaine O'Dell, Sharon Otis, John and Carol Broussard, and William and Margie DeShong, all of Nikiski, and William and Crystal McGahan of Winnemucca, Nev.; special niece and husband, LoisAnn and Mark Stynsberg of Nikiski; nephews and spouse, Timothy and Cheri Vincent of Wisconsin and Calvin Vincent of Washington; brothers and sisters, Jack and Eugene Orr and Maudie Losey, all of Michigan; sisters-in-law, Ida Mae Conklin, Eve Orr, Barbara Orr, Verna LaKosky and an aunt Metha Wiederhold all from Michigan; grandchildren and their spouses, Wayne and Joan Davidson, Allan and Debi Stone, Walt and Colleen Ward, Randy McGahan, Bill and Priscilla Niederhauser, Crystal Wilson, Kirk McGahan, Terry and Alesia McGahan, Mike and Geri Litzen, Rich and Monica McGahan, Tony and Leah Jackson, Jackie and Wendy McGahan, Rich and Shelly McGahan, Brian and Lisa Gabriel, Tim and Bobby McGahan, Per and Leann McGahan, Larry and Denise Buss, Lou and Stacey Oliva, Kyle and Emily Miller, William McGahan, Debi Harris, Danae Powell, Daniel and Jennifer Lincoln, Donita O'Dell, Ron Otis, Ron and Sandra Simmons, Chris and Angela Davis, Mathew and Sammi Broussard, Michael, William and Lila Broussard, Ryan and Jessica Broussard, Beau, Margaret, Kendra and Jillian Broussard, Nick and Abbie McGahan, Jessie Miller, Josh and Tiffany Juskewicz, Holly, Christoffer and Heidi Stynsberg and Trevor Vincent, Jacob, Ashley and Chelsea Vincent; great-grandchildren, Sherlai, Douglas, Melissa, Bethany, Kelsey, Wally, Rocky, Dusty, Adrina, Ruth, Sarah, Haley, Mylee, Candice, Kelly, Keith, Ryan, Tiana, Erica, Richele, Lex, Chena, Penelope, Jimmy, Tessa, Celina, Sullivan, Oliver, Cameron, Cody, Amanda, Amiee, Allie, Brian, Jenna, Branda, Timmy, Sean, Stephanie, Christa, Travis, Jessica, Justin, Silas, Kaitlin, Josie, Jakelynn, Bailey, Donita, Derek, Jennifer, Jordon, Andy, Emily, Trevor, Brittany, Mark, Reid, Jocelyn, Dylan, Luck, Charlene, Falon and Blossom; and great-great-grandchildren, Kailee, Madylin, Connor, Avery, Faythe, Christian, Alyssa, Emily, Regan, Anthony, Rylee and Brynn
