Little League registration continues

Registration for Soldotna Little League will be held at the Soldotna Little League Bingo Hall by Sal’s Diner on the following dates: from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Monday and Tuesday and March 20, 21 and 22; and from noon to 5 p.m. March 17 and 24. Registration fees are $40 for tee ball and coach pitch and $50 for minors through high school.

Drivers’ safety class Saturday

American Association of Retired Persons will hold a driver safety program from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Elks Lodge No. 2706 at 44640 Parkway Ave. in Soldotna. For more information, call Jim Bennett at 260-4904.

Genealogical Society plans activities

Totem Tracers Genealogical Society will hold the following activities at the Kenai Community Library:

· Saturday — Ancestor research from 1 to 3 p.m.; and

· March 20 — Society business meeting at 6 p.m. with general meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Cancer fundraiser slated

A fundraiser to help defray the medical cost for cancer treatment for Jamie Leamon will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the J Bar B Club at Mile 101.5 of the Sterling Highway. A pig roast, auctions, raffles and other activities are planned. The cost is $10 per person.

Reading, writing, entertainment

The Central Peninsula Writers Group will present its 10th annual Cabin Fever Reliever. Ten local writers will read their work at 5 p.m. Saturday at Triumvirate Theatre in the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. Admission is a $5 donation at the door.

Head Start fundraiser set to entertain

Sterling Head Start will hold its fourth annual dinner, auction and show at 6 p.m. Saturday. Dinner will include prime rib with salad bar. Fishing trips, tickets from Anchorage to Kenai, hand-crafted items, jewelry and restaurant certificates are some of the items to be auctioned.

ACT plans ice cream social

The Alliance of Concerned Taxpayers will host a free ice cream social from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Salamantof Fire Station. For more information, call 252-4852.

AFS fundraiser dinner set to dish

A dinner to help raise funds for the American Field Service exchange student program will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Catholic Church in Kenai. Food from around the world will be featured at dinner.

Digging salmon

Participants of a food cache project at the K’beq Kenaitze Interpretive Site in Cooper Landing will uncover the fish they buried in traditional Kenaitze food storage pits in October in a program Monday. The event is open to the public. For more information, call 283-1490.

Good News Clubs slated

Good News clubs will be held Tuesday at Soldotna Elementary and Aurora Borealis Charter School; and Thursday at Mountain View Elementary. All clubs meet immediately after school and last one hour. Children are taught moral values and character qualities through lessons, games and songs. Prizes and snacks also are available. Volunteer leaders are screened for child protection.

Parents are welcome to attend and are responsible for transportation following the clubs. Permission slips are available in all schools. For more information, call Phyllis Yankey at 262-9605.

SoHi after-prom meeting slated

Soldotna High parents of juniors after-prom committee will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the teachers lounge.

Container gardens to be discussed

Peninsula Take-A-Break will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Solid Rock Conference Center at Mile 90.5 of the Sterling Highway. Janice Chumley of the Cooperative Extension Service will discuss container gardens. Live music will be by Nettie Keller. Anita Bacon also will speak. The cost is $10. Child care will be available.
