Longtime Soldotna resident, Forrest J. "Dick" Ellis, 76, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, after a brief hospital stay at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna.
A celebration of life was held Friday, March 7, 2008 at American Legion Post 29 in Anchorage. An additional celebration of life was held Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the V.F.W. Post 10046 in Soldotna.
Mr. Ellis was born Nov. 14, 1931 to Morris Toliver and Gladys (York) Ellis in Miami, Ariz. The family moved and homesteaded in Silverdale, Wash. Mr. Ellis married Ruby Jared in 1950. He came to Alaska with his wife and four children in the mid 1950s. He worked as an electrical engineer for Anchorage Telephone Utility. He then worked for several private contractors in the electrical association.
Mr. Ellis loved to camp, hunt and fish with his family. He was a member of the IBEW, Masons and the American Legion.
"Dick will be remembered as a dedicated family man, and for his generosity and love of laughter," the family wrote.
He is survived by his sons, James McWilliams, Jeffrey Ellis and Mark Ellis of Soldotna; son, Richard Ellis, and daughter, Tina Ellis of Anchorage; and daughters, Patty Bumcrott and Sue (Maier); and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
