Food bank to hold open house

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will hold an open house from 3 to 4 p.m. today. The tour is open to current agency personnel or anyone wishing to become an agency member.

There will be information on how the food bank can contribute to private programs to help the needy, and how agency employees can shop at the warehouse. Refreshments will be served and a door prize will be given. For more information, call Linda Swarner at 262-3111.

Charter school enrollment deadline today

The Aurora Borealis Charter School will conduct an enrollment lottery April 14. Applications and copies of the enrollment and lottery procedures are available at the ABCS office from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. All applications must be delivered in person to the office no later than 3 p.m. today. Lottery results will be posted at ABCS on April 22.

If your child has a lottery number, you do not need to go through the process again. Parents with a lottery number who no longer want to be on the waiting list are asked to call the office. For more information, call Debbie Palm between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.

Fish and Game committee meeting set

The Kenai-Soldotna Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at the Kenai River Center. A special election will take place to fill a vacant seat designated for personal-use subsistence member. The topic will be on Kenai River issues and fishing regulation proposals for the Board of Fish 2005 cycle. For more information and vacancy requirements, call Dwight Kramer at 283-1054.

Developmental screening offered

Frontier Community Services is offering developmental screening from 10 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Village Health Fair at Soldotna High School. The screenings are available for children ages birth to 3 years. For more information, call 262-6331.

Social Security reps to visit area

Social Security administration representatives will be on the Kenai Peninsula from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Seward City Hall; from noon to 4 p.m. March 17 at Kenai City Hall; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 18 at the Homer Senior Citizens Center. Johansen to discuss hydroponics

The Cooperative Extension Service-Kenai Peninsula District will host Pepper Johansen from 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 18 at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road. Her topic will be home hydroponic systems. For more information, call Janice at 262-5824.

Preschool to hold fund-raiser

The Soldotna Cooperative preschool will hold a spaghetti feed fund-raiser from 4 to 7 p.m. April 17 at the Christ Lutheran Church on the corner of Kenai Spur Highway and Soldotna Avenue. Tickets will be available at the door for $5 per person or $15 for a family of four. Door prizes will be given. For more information, call 262-9149.

Soroptimists to meet

Soroptimist International of the Twin Cities hold its board meeting at 5:30 p.m. March 18 at the Peninsula Christian Center at the corner of Farnsworth and Cohoe in Soldotna.
