Mrs. Overturf's kindergartners learned about the different layers of the earth by building each layer with a different color of clay. The inner core was red, the outer core was yellow, the mantle was orange and the crust was a mixture of blue and green. When the entire earth was formed, students sliced it in half with dental floss and were thrilled to see all the layers revealed. A discussion of the continental plates and volcanoes followed.
The staff and students thank Dr. Bramante for visiting Mrs. Larned's class and talking about bones and blood. The students were very interested and had great questions to ask. Students have finished their island projects and are beginning a study of the continent of Antarctica, including past and present explorers.
The students will give a hands-on Montessori demonstration at the next parent meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Soldotna Elementary gym.
Due to schedule conflicts, Monday's APC meeting was rescheduled to 5 p.m. today.
