Chambers set schedules

Bed and breakfast group meets

The Kenai Peninsula Bed and Breakfast Association meets at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center, March 19, 11 a.m. Monte Davis of The Alaska Travel Industry Association will speak on the history of the association, the vision and how KPBBA is benefitting for affiliation. Members are asked to bring snack type food and prospective members or interested others are welcome.

Stars of the Industry recognized

The Stars of the Industry Awards program was created to honor and celebrate outstanding service and achievements in the hospitality industry. It recognizes employees, managers, properties and businesses that best symbolize the highest quality service of the industry. The following people from Land's End Resort in Homer were selected as finalists for the Statewide awards: Jean Adams, Food & Beverage Employee of the Year; Katie Dawson, Food & Beverage Employee of the Year; Michael Cox, Maintenance Employee of the Year; Josh Garvey, Rising Star Award; Aliene Sargeant, Housekeeping Employee of the Year; James McGee, Maintenance/Security Employee of the Year; Zoya Greene, Administrative Employee of the Year.

A panel of judges reviews all nominations from all over the state and select the winners.

Land's End would like to congratulate all of the nominees and the statewide award winners Jean Adams and James McGee. Land's End is proud to have such an outstanding team.

Shorebird amateur photo contest open

NOMAR of Homer is once again sponsoring the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival Amateur Photo Contest. Best Of Show photo is awarded $300. Additional cash prizes will be awarded in three categories. Wildlife, Scenic and Alaskana (human interest). Entry Forms are available at NOMAR, 104 E. Pioneer Ave., Homer, Monday -- Saturday, 9 a.m. -- 6 p.m., or go on line to click on the shorebird icon and download the form. Deadline for entries is 6 p.m. Monday May 2. All entries will be on display at NOMAR thru May 31.

Sport, Rec and Trade show gearing up

The Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors has purchased the Kenai Peninsula Sport, Rec and Trade Show from Peninsula Marketing. The Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors along with sponsors The KSRM Radio Group and The Peninsula Clarion invite you to mark the 26th Annual Kenai Peninsula Sport, Rec and Trade Show on your calendars: Friday, May 6 through Sunday, May 8. Learn to keep tax records

Alaska Small Business Development Center wants you to be efficient in tracking your records for tax purposes. On Tuesday, March 15, from 5 to 8 p.m., Beth Meier will provide tips on keeping good records, employee information, etc, to meet tax requirements and to stay organized for timely tax reporting. Learn to build a business plan

You can learn methods to establish budgets, monetary amounts or percentages and how to evaluate your successes and failures by attending the Alaska Small Business Development Center seminar on Tuesday, March 15, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Suite 12 at the Red Diamond Center on K-Beach Road. Free renewable energy seminar

Alaskan Wind Industries hosts presentations for the Alaska Small Business Development Center starting in Homer on March 21, at the Red Diamond Center on March 22 and in Seward on March 29, Learn more about the various renewable energy topics: wind turbine -- direct heating options; small wind -- diesel; proper wind turbine siting. The Business Grants and Incentives section will provide information to businesses interested in installing wind turbines and receiving the largest benefit from these units, as well as review the return on investment and new incentives for 2011. A new, one-hour, free Business Startup Introduction program will allow Bryan Zak to answer your basic questions on starting a business on the Kenai Peninsula while preparing you for a productive relationship with Alaska Small Business Development Center.
