FAIRBANKS (AP) -- The University of Alaska Fairbanks rifle team won its third straight NCAA rifle championship on Saturday at Columbus, Ohio.
The Nanooks blew away the competition, winning the title by more than 100 points, and came within two points of breaking their own NCAA record that they set last year.
UAF had an overall scored of 6,283 out of a possible 6,400, but set a new national smallbore record with a score of 4,710. The Nanooks posted an air rifle score of 1,573.
The University of Kentucky came in second place with a score of 6,175, just one point ahead of West Virginia.
Sophomore Matt Emmons, senior Olympian Melissa Mulloy, sophomore Per Sandberg and freshman Karl Olsson comprised the UAF team in both disciplines on Saturday. Two other members of the team--senior captain Grant Mecozzi and junior Amber Darland--competed in the individual events on Friday.
