Meeting held to discuss gas exploration

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service intends to gather information necessary for the preparation of an environmental impact statement in response to a right-of-way application for construction of natural gas exploration and production facilities in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. The proposed project would be located in the northwest section of the Kenai Peninsula, in two areas collectively known as Swanson River Satellites.

The East Swanson area is approximately five miles east of the Swanson River Unit. The North Swanson area encompasses the Birch Hill Unit and is approximately three miles northeast of the northern Swanson River Unit Boundary. A public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Soldotna Senior Center.

Written comments should be addressed to Regional Director Region 7, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 1011 East Tudor Road, Anchorage, AK 99503. Comments should be received by March 30.

AARP to meet

The American Association of Retired Persons will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Kenai Senior Center. The meeting is open to anyone 50 or older. For more information, call 262-5571.

CES board meeting slated

The monthly board meeting for the Board of Directors for the Central Emergency Service Area will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Station 1 at 231 S. Binkley Street. Regular agenda items and reports will be discussed. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, call 262-4792.

Forum held to discuss tobacco use

The Tobacco Control Alliance of the Peninsula will sponsor a peninsulawide community forum at 7 p.m. Friday at Skyview High School. The forum will discuss issues relating to tobacco use and clean indoor air. The forum is open to the public. For more information, call Patti at 260-3682.

Class presented for better parenting

The Kenai Peninsula Community Care Center will sponsor a six-session program entitled Active Parenting Today, starting March 19 at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna.

Arctic Young Marines boot camp slated

The Arctic Young Marines for children ages 8 to 18 will have a sign-up at 10 a.m. March 24 at the American Legion Bingo Hall in Kenai. Boot camp starts March 31 at 9 a.m.
