The Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association Ice Hawks pulled their record in the 2001 Midget Tier II State Tournament to 2-1-0 after a win over the Blue Devils Saturday at the Soldotna Sports Center.
The Ice Hawks outscored the Devils 7-2 as James McEwen found the back of the net in the first period along with Peter Kim and Dan Jensen, who scored twice in the contest. The second period found Adrian Borchgrevink scoring, while Eric Newby capped the KPHA scoring with two goals in the third period. Kelly Gee had 30 shots on goal and 28 saves.
Friday night found the Ice Hawks posting a 3-2 win over the Bulldogs. Jensen scored late in the second period to tie the game 1-1. Newby scored early in the second to make it 2-1, but the Bulldogs scored with 4:26 left on the clock to tie the game. Derek Martin's game-winning goal came with 43 seconds left. Gee stopped 24-of-26 shots for KPHA.
Friday's early game found the Ice Hawks falling 6-2 to the scoring ability of the All Stars. Kim scored early in the first period and Owen Brewer added a goal for KPHA in the losing effort. Goaltenders Kenny Bishop and Gee shared time between the posts for the Ice Hawks, saving 12 of 18 shots.
The other standings in the round-robin tournament find the North Stars at 3-1-0, the Blue Devils at 2-1-1, the All Stars at 2-0-1, the FAHA 0-2-1 and the Bulldogs at 0-2-1.
