Area students named to deans' lists
Connie Eberline of Sterling was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Idaho State University's Kasiska College of Health Professions. To be named to the dean's list, students must be full-time and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.66.
Rachel Rands Jones of Soldotna was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Jones is a senior studying fisheries and wildlife. To be named to the dean's list, students must be full-time and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.75.
Benjamin McGarry of Kasilof was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at George Fox University in Newberg, Ore. He is the son of Jerry and Peggy McGarry of Kasilof and is a junior majoring in chemistry. To be named to the dean's list, students must be full-time and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.5.
Brandon C. Newbould of Kenai was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Messiah College in Pennsylvania. Newbould is the son of Denise and Douglas F. Newbould of Kasilof and is a 2000 graduate of Soldotna High School. He is studying music. To be named to the dean's list, students must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.6.
Kathleen Hayes Peters of Kenai was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Business Administration. She is a freshman studying marketing. To be named to the dean's list, students must be full-time and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.6.
Shaun Williams of Soldotna was named to the DAC-10 Academic Scholars Honor Roll. To be named to the honor roll, students must be athletes in the DAC-10 division and achieve a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25. Williams plays football at Valley City State University in North Dakota.
Kenai student honored at UNC
Stacey Pault of Kenai was recognized for outstanding academic achievement at the University of Northern Colorado. She was honored and introduced to the Golden Key National Honor Society with other sophomores in the top 10 percent of their class at a banquet Monday. Golden Key recognizes the top 15 percent of juniors and seniors in all fields of study at 285 universities in the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Australia, Canada, Malaysia and New Zealand.
Pault is the daughter of Joe and Katie Pault of Kenai and is a 2000 Kenai Central High School graduate. She is a premed major at UNC.
Area residents enlist in Army
Shannon B. Holm of Seward has enlisted in the U.S. Army's Delayed Entry Program, which allows an individual to join the Army, but delay departure for up to 365 days. Holm's test score and enlistment as a military police officer qualifies her for a $3,000 cash incentive, and she has enrolled in the Army College Fund for up to $50,000 toward full-time schooling. She will leave for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., on June 4.
Holm is a 2001 graduate of Seward High School and is the daughter of Bradford and Ronda Holm of Seward.
Robert J. Stark of Seward has enlisted in the U.S. Army's Delayed Entry Program. Stark's test score and enlistment in the infantry qualify him for a $9,000 cash incentive. He will leave for basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., May 29.
Stark is the son of Sheri Lynn Stern of Seward.
