Solicitation and peddling in Soldotna's Centennial and Swiftwater campgrounds are now prohibited thanks to an ordinance passed by the city council on Wednesday night.
In order to "provide users with an Alaskan experience," the council unanimously passed the ordinance put forth by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
Parks and Rec Director Andrew Carmichael said an ice cream truck popping in and out of the campgrounds prompted the ordinance's creation, but that magazine sales and other soliciting has taken place in the past.
Exceptions to the new rule include tour guides and fishing guides transporting customers, taxidermists retrieving fish for mounting, and retail businesses operating through a concession contract with the city awarded through a bid process.
