The aurora borealis, or northern lights, fill the sky above the Kenai Mountains east of the Seward Highway near the Hope cutoff early Thursday during a bright display that lasted most of the night. The University of Alaska's Geophysical Institute attributed the increased activity to a pair of medium-sized solar flares that erupted from the sun on March 7.
