'Waiting for Superman' showing

A free showing of "Waiting for Superman" will be held March 18 and 19, 6 to 8 p.m., in Fred Sturman's gray building across from Bailey's on Kenai Spur Highway. Seating is limited, so call 252-0100 for reservations.

Shelter offers free vaccinations

Kenai Animal Shelter is conducting its annual Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, March 19, from 10 a.m. -- 2 p.m. Dogs and cats welcome. Dogs must be on a leash; cats are preferred in a carrier. Kenai residents must obtain a license for dogs at time of clinic. Altered pets: $10.60, Unaltered pets: $31.80. Cash or Check only. Senior center 30 years young

Ninilchik Senior Center is celebrating its 30th anniversary on Thursday, March 24. We are turning it into a birthday party, and we would like to invite all to share the fun with us. We are hoping for a full house, and for this occasion, we request that you make your reservations early, so that we know how much food to prepare and how to arrange the seating. With a pre-paid reservation, your name will be entered into a special prize drawing. Martha and Dennis Ogren will entertain us with her accordion and his guitar; we will have one free Bingo game; there will be lots of fun and prizes. The Party starts with lunch served at 12 noon sharp. For more information call 567-8399.

Monday, March 14: Lunch --Chile verde, black beans and rice, chips and salsa. Quilters meet from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Tuesday, March 15: Lunch -- Spaghetti and meat sauce, peas, garlic toast. Scrapbooking from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, March 16: Lunch -- Almond chicken stir fry, veggies with rice, ggg rolls.

Thursday, March 17: Lunch -- Sloppy Margy's (identical to Sloppy Joes), oven fries, cole slaw. Wear something green and get a free ticket for a prize drawing. Pinochle 12:30 to 4 p.m.; Youth Charity Sewing, 4 to 6 p.m. by appointment; Square dance and round dance lessons, 7 to 9 p.m.

Friday, March 18: Lunch -- Roast chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and rolls. Knitting and Crochet, 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Learn about the railbelt hydro project

The Alaska Energy Authority hosts a Railbelt Region Large Hydroelectric Project open house March 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a presentation at 6 p.m., at the Challenger Learning Center, 9711 Kenai Spur Highway, Kenai. League of Women Voters hears about health care task force

The Kenai Peninsula League of Women Voters will meet today at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna at noon. The monthly speaker will be Gary Knopp, chair of the Health Care Task Force and member of the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly. Mr. Knopp will discuss the progress of the task force. The public is invited.
