Posted: Sunday, March 12, 2000

Ed and Wade Jackinsky will celebrate their 50th anniversary Tuesday. A celebration honoring the occasion will be held at their home.

The couple was married in Fairbanks at the First Presbyterian Church on March 14, 1950. Ed's sister Cora was the maid of honor, and Cora's husband, Don Cook, was the best man.

Wade traveled to Ninilchik from San Diego in the late 1940s to teach in the village school. She met Ed, who was born and raised there. They built a home in Ninilchik and raised six children. The Jackinskys have 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ed served with the armed forces in World War II and then began a long career as a commercial fisher.

Wade has been involved in education on the Kenai Peninsula, including teaching as well as being a board member for the school district and state board of education.
