Jones died Wednesday at the age of 80.

He served one term as a state representative, in Alaska's first Legislature in 1959-60.

Jones came to Alaska in 1942 with the Coast Guard. He ran a general store in Craig that was started by his father-in-law. He was also a commercial fisherman.

Jones is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ethelyn; daughters Lynn and Judy; son Wayne, and three grandchildren.
