Competitors in traditional skin footwear race with snowshoes Friday on trails behind the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge headquarters building in Soldotna.

 

Participants in the 10-kilometer junior male event descend a hill near the beginning of the event. Sharon Robert of Team Northwest Territories collapses in the snow following the 5-kilometer junior girls race.

 

Friday’s event started with subzero temperatures and ended with athletes tired and sweaty.
