Nikiski girls still rule

The Nikiski girls defeated Seward 67-47 in the girls championship game of the Southcentral Conference tournament at Houston on Saturday.

Since 1992, the Bulldogs have 12 first-place conference finishes. This season also marks the fifth time in the last seven years that Nikiski has gone undefeated in conference play.

In Saturday’s game, Nikiski outscored Seward 43-26 in the second half and drained nine 3-pointers en route to the win. Both teams will appear at the state tournament.

Sarah Herrin scored a game-high 22 points and Hannah Thompson and Sasha Auldridge each scored 11 points for the Bulldogs.

Kursten Stallings scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half for Seward. Rubye Foldager pitched in with nine points for the Seahawks.

Nikiski girls 49, Anchorage Christian Schools 38

Sarah Herrin scored 23 points and Stacey Griffel added 11 points as the Bulldogs landed a spot in the Southcentral Conference girls championship game at Houston with a win Friday against ACS. The win also clinched a berth at state for Nikiski.

Herrin scored 10 of her points in the third quarter, where Nikiski outscored ACS 18-10. The third quarter margin proved to be the difference needed to advance to the championship game.

Vanessa Grace led ACS with 14 points.

Seward girls 41, Grace Christian 33

After trailing by five points entering the final quarter, Seward ignited for 18 fourth-quarter points Friday to propel them into Saturday’s championship game against Nikiski at Houston.

Tarrah Beals and Siri Gillespie each scored 13 points in the Southcentral Conference semifinal game for Seward.

Grace Christian girls 49, Anchorage Christian Schools 45

Grace Christian clinched third place in the Southcentral Conference tournament with win Saturday against ACS at Houston.

Beth Balisteri led the Grizzlies with 12 points and Vanessa Grace scored 14 points to lead ACS.

Houston girls 64, Su-Valley 30

The Houston girls advanced to the fourth place game in the Southcentral Conference tournament with with the win against the Rams Friday.

Jen Mason led Houston with 14 points, while Megan Ostermik scored 12 points for the Rams.

Heritage Christian girls 41, Houston 40

The Eagles came from behind to slip past Houston and notch fourth place in Southcentral Conference play Saturday at Houston. The Eagles outscored Houston 18-6 in the fourth quarter.

Anna Simmers scored 17 points for Heritage, while Courtney Elder led Houston with 11 points.

Heritage Christian boys 78, Anchorage Christian Schools 43

Heritage Christian won the championship game of the Southcentral Conference Tournament Saturday over ACS.

With the win, Heritage Christian will be the first seed from the Southcentral Conference at the upcoming state tournament.

Millar brothers Thomas and Trenton combined for 46 points in the win with Thomas netting 20 and Trenton scoring 16 respectively. Gabe Webb added 18 points and Lonnie Ridgeway scored 13 points for the Eagles.

Chad Dyson scored 15 points to lead the Lions.

Grace Christian boys 65, Seward 51

The Grizzlies outscored the Seahawks 22-10 in the fourth quarter to finish in third place in the Southcentral Conference tournament.

Ben Boerger poured in 25 points to lead Grace and Kellan Moll pitched in with 16 points.

Coty Beck scored 17 points for Seward and Corey Hetrick added 13 points.

Heritage Christian boys 71, Seward 41

In the boys semifinal Friday at Houston, the Seward boys lost a 71-41 decision to first seed Heritage Christian.

Heritage Christian took control early and coasted to victory.

Caleb Adelmann and Coty Beck each scored eight points to lead Seward, while Lonnie Ridgeway netted 20 points to pace the Eagles.

Anchorage Christian Schools boys 44, Grace Christian 42, OT

The Lions scored seven of his 21 points in the extra period as ACS edged Grace in Southcentral Conference tournament action Friday.

The Lions moved into the championship game against Heritage Christian with the win.

Kellan Moll scored 20 points to lead the Grizzlies.

Su-Valley boys 71, Nikiski 63

Nikiski’s late charge fell short against the Rams in Southcentral Conference consolation action Friday.

After trailing 47-34 entering the final quarter, Nikiski scored 29 points only to fall short.

Rick Miller scored 15 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter to lead Nikiski Justin Vance added 16 points and Jesse Cook pitched in 10 points.

Su-Valley’s Travis Clark scored 25 points to lead the Rams.

Houston boys 82, Su-Valley 34

The Houston boys took fourth place with a 82-34 win against the Rams. David Montiel scored 26 points and Kaden Shumway scored 24 points to lead Houston.

Jon Frankson scored 11 points for Su-Valley.
