Schools, community value youth

Posted: Friday, March 12, 2010

I was reminded this past Saturday, March 6, how grateful I am to live in a community which values its young people. I was also reminded of the efforts of the many volunteers it takes to create wonderful opportunities for the youth of our community. On this particular Saturday I volunteered to help judge the borough forensics competition at Sterling Elementary. There was great support from the administration of several schools, teachers, support staff and community volunteers working to host this wonderful event.

That afternoon I attend one of the Region III basketball games at Skyview High School. Once again, a myriad of volunteers working countless hours to host school teams from around the state. That evening I attended the Soldotna Community Playground fundraising dinner at the Peninsula Sports Center. The decorations, food preparation, and auction items were all organized by committed volunteers dedicated to an outstanding project for our community.

Thank you to those who helped make these three events possible and to the countless others who have volunteered to help make our community a better place for all.
