ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The board of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute has elected a new chairman.

Sandro Lane, president and founder of Taku Smokeries and Taku Fisheries of Juneau, takes over for board member Jim Kallander, a Cordova commercial fisherman.

The 25-member board is appointed by the governor.

Financed by taxes on salmon fishermen and processors, as well as federal grants, it markets Alaska fish and shellfish in the United States, Asia, Europe and Australia.
