Bee keepers buzzing

Bee Keeper’s Educational Exchange on the Peninsula (B-KEEP) will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Soldotna Middle School. Herb Putney, Alaska’s representative for the American Federation of Beekeepers, will be the featured speaker. It is open to the public. Finalization of package bee ordering is planned. SoHi after-grad committee to meet

The Soldotna High School after-graduation committee will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the lounge. The committee needs assistance with chaperoning, planning and coordinating activities, decorations and food.

Monetary donations and donations of prize items also are needed. Attendance at planning meetings is not necessary to help with this event. For more information, call Mary Jo Spotts, 262-5447.

Safari club to meet

The Kenai Peninsula chapter of the Safari Club International will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Don Jose’s Restaurant in Soldotna. It is open to the public.

Child abuse to be discussed

The Kenai Community Library will host a presentation on child abuse and neglect from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the library conference room. For more information, call 283-4378.

Skyview to host parent night

Skyview High School will host eighth-grade parent night at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the library. Parents of incoming 2006-07 freshmen are encouraged to attend. The topics will be curriculum, programs, policies, procedures, activities and athletics that the school has to offer.

School counselors will travel to Soldotna Middle School the morning of March 14 to pass out preregistration information to eighth-graders planning to attend Skyview next year. Students attending schools other than SMS are asked to stop by the high school to pick up a packet. For more information, call 262-7675.

Ruffner to discuss kayak adventure

Area kayaker Robert Ruffner will give a presentation on his trip from Nellie Juan Lake to Prince William Sound at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kenai River Center at Mile 1.6 Funny River Road. There is no fee. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 260-4882.

Flight instructors meeting set

The Kenai Peninsula Flight Instructors Association will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kenai Flight Service. The topics will be changes to practical test standards, new flight test procedures and teaching techniques. For more information, call Dean at 262-3872.

Chicken dinner fundraiser slated

The Kenai Eagles No. 5765 will host an all-you-can-eat fried chicken dinner fundraiser from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the lodge. proceeds will benefit the Jimmy Durante Children’s Fund. The cost is $10 a plate. For more information, call 283-3496.

AFS dinner scheduled

The 26th annual AFS Foreign Exchange Student International Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church at 225 S. Spruce St. in Kenai. A gourmet dinner will be served. The cost is $15. Tickets are available at the Kenai Community Library and River City Books.

Civics project seeks donations

Kenai Central High School senior Christy Cupp is holding a food drive for the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank for her senior civics project now through Friday. A donation drop box is available at Kenai Fellowship Church on Mile 8.5 on the Kenai Spur Highway. The church is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., however donations may be left on the front porch.
