Skyview High School graduate Erick Romig, now at the University of Alaska Anchorage, placed fourth in the Older Junior 10-kilometer freestyle interval start race in the Junior Olympics at Kincaid Park in Anchorage on Wednesday.
In the Junior Olympics, area skiers are competing against the best skiers in the country in their age group.
Romig finished in 28 minutes, 46.3 seconds, just 1:06 behind winner Noah Hoffman (27:40.3).
Soldotna High School's Kailey Mucha placed 23rd in the 5-kilometer competition amongst Junior 1 skiers. Mucha finished in 17:27.3, only 1:29 behind the winner, Jessie Diggins. Kenai Central High School's Molly Watkins finished 67th in the same race, crossing the finish line in 18:57.1.
The Junior Olympics continue at Kincaid on Friday with a classic mass start race and on Saturday with a freestyle relay.
