Soldotna resident Monte A. Stover died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. He was 60.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Eagle's Club in Kenai. There will be time for friends and family to share memories.
Mr. Stover was born June 14, 1939, to Maurice and Velma (Crosby) Stover in Seattle. The family moved to California, where he was raised and educated. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960.
Mr. Stover moved to Alaska in 1977, residing in Kenai. He owned and operated Monte's Body Shop in Kenai. In 1988, he married Willow Borden at Harold Stroud's home in Soldotna. They made their home in Soldotna.
Mr. Stover was a member of the Eagle's Aerie No. 3525 of Kenai, which he joined in 1977. He was the past president and state treasurer of the Eagles. Mr. Stover also was a charter member of the Eagle's Club in Kasilof. He received many different appreciation awards from the Twin City Raceway Association. He loved fishing, hunting and flying.
His wife said, "I will always have happy memories. There was never a dull moment with Monte around."
Mr. Stover is survived by his wife of 11 years, Willow of Soldotna; daughters and their husbands Gail and Mike Bandy of Grass Valley, Calif., and Tracy and Danny Carrillo of Martinez, Calif.; stepson, Chuck Bullion of Vancouver, Wash.; stepson and his wife, Tom and Kelly Bullion of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; stepdaughter and her husband, Debby and Jerry Dinsmore of Newport, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his father, Maurice Stover of Shelton, Wash.; sister, Mickey Nelson of Ocean Shores, Wash.; and brother, Rick Stover of Oakland, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in memory of Monte Stover to the Eagles Aerie No. 3525, 5765 Kenai Spur Highway, Kenai, AK 99611.
Peninsula Memorial Chapels is in charge of arrangements.
