Thanks to those who helped peninsula kids show off

Posted: Monday, March 14, 2005

A very talented group of young folks performed at the recent 20th anniversary of Showin' Off the Kids, a lip-synching and choreography contest sponsored by Soldotna Community Schools. Showin' Off the Kids is truly a show by kids (contestants K through 8th grade), for kids (audience of kids and their families), and with kids (SoHi Swing Choir).

This fun filled evening would not be possible without the contributions made by our wonderful sponsors: KSRM Radio Group, First National Bank Alaska, Wells Fargo Bank Alaska and the Soldotna Dairy Queen. Thank you for providing advertising, prizes and a lot of support!

The participants and audience had a great time, but the judges definitely had their work cut out for them, attempting to choose winners in category.

It is tough when each performance is so good! Special thanks to these hardy souls—Robby Lyon of First National Bank Alaska, Vickie Edelman (an EMT and childbirth educator), Kelly Keating-Griebel of Freedom Realty, Kim Coreson of Savers Digital Archiving, Sam Caswell of Soldotna Swing Choir and Joe Rogers of Southcentral Title Agency, who served as tally judge. Debbie Wells of KSRM Radio was the program announcer and kept the show rockin' and rollin'!

The SoHi Swing Choir students who worked so hard to make the show a success were: James Hilbish, Jonny Coreson, Sam Caswell, Joe Spady, Tim Lybrand, Matt Myers and Kacia Dimick. Soldotna Community Schools believes strongly in sponsoring these "partner projects" with younger children and high school students—we all learn from working together. We truly appreciate the support and time of these fine young Soldotna High School students, as well as their creativity and energy. A special thanks also goes out to the parents of the contestants who make a point of supporting our youth activities with their attendance. Profit from the SOK

presentation goes toward our Soldotna Community Schools youth programs.

Thanks to all!

Carmen Triana, Soldotna Community Schools, Dana Cannava, Joe Rogers, Jeff Kipp, and Mavis Blazy-Lancaster, Showin' Off the Kids board of directors
