Our communities' generosity never ceases to amaze me. This past Saturday I attended the "One-Year Out" celebration and auction for the 2006 Arctic Winter Games at the Soldotna Sports Center. It was truly a remarkable evening. Not only did the Peninsula communities clear $50,000 for the upcoming Games, the outpouring of excitement and enthusiasm generated for the Games tells me these are going to be the best Arctic Winter Games ever.
On behalf of the Kenai Peninsula 2006 Arctic Winter Games Host Society, I'd like to thank those who made this special event possible, Alaska Communications Systems (ACS), Country Liquors, Snug Harbor Seafoods Inc. and "Kenai Wild" Salmon Brand generously helped underwrite the evening. Twenty businesses sponsored tables for the event including, Coca Cola of Alaska, Udelhoven Oilfield System Services, ASC, ASRC Energy Services, Wells Fargo, Tesoro, Baker Hughes, ERA Aviation, Salamatof Native Association, RE/MAX of the Peninsula, Hutchings Chevrolet, Glacier Pontiac, Fred Meyer, XTO Energy and Robertson Monagle & Eastaugh.
Then there are the dozens of businesses and individuals who gave their services, products and personal time to ensure that the event was successful. It is the generous gift of self that reminds me how lucky I am to live where I do.
A special note of thanks to Lt. Governor Loren Leman for beginning the one-year out countdown to the Games toast and to Bunny Swan for her marvelous songs and performance.
The Games will be successful because of you.
