Pool schedules announced

Area pools hours are:

* Kenai Central High School -- 6:30 to 8 a.m. morning lap swim -- Monday through Friday; 9 to 11 a.m. physical therapy -- Mondays; 3 to 5 p.m. Piranaha Swim Team -- Monday through Thursday; 5 to 6 p.m. swim lessons -- Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. water aerobics -- Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 6 to 7 p.m. evening lap swim -- Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The cost is $4 Lap swim or Open swim, $35 for a punch card/ 10 punches on the card.

* Skyview High School -- Spring Break Schedule March 15- 19 -- A.m. Lap swim from 6 to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday; Am Lap swim and water aerobics 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday; Open Swim 3:30-5:30 Monday through Friday; Water Aerobics 5:30-6:30 Monday, Wednesday, Friday; P.M. Lap swim 6:30-7:30 Monday, Wednesday, Friday; and organized Lap Swim Workout 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

Spring Break Private Swim lessons - Private swim lessons 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. $15 for 30 min lesson or $20 for Semi private lesson. Starting March 30 it will have a new set of swimming lessons.

* Nikiski pool Spring Break Hours continue through March 21 are Tuesday through Thursday -- Open Swim and Lap Swim from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 6 to 9 p.m. with waterslide starting at 1 p.m.; Fridays hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and and 6 to 9 p.m. for Open swim, Lap Swim and Waterslide; Saturday and Sunday hours are Open Swim, Lap Swim and Water Slide from 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.

There is space available for semi-private lessons starting March 30 through April 9.

Cancer fundraiser planned

The annual St. Baldrick's Foundation event in Soldotna to raise money for childhood cancer research is set for March 20 at 6 p.m. at the Soldotna Sports Center.

Volunteers are needed to have their heads shaved in exchange for donations Also needed are items to raffle, barbers and hairstylists and volunteers for the evening of the event.

Deaf issues to be discussed

Independent Living Center and The State of Alaska will present guest speaker Liz Andrews from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 23 and 24 at the Aspen Hotel Soldotna (board room.) Liz Andrews, who has been certified to teach Deaf Advocacy Training will be our featured speaker. Andrews was born and raised in Alaska, experiences deafness herself and is President of the Alaska Deaf Council. She will be assisting ILC and local advocates to understand rights of individuals to effective communication under the Americans with Disabilities Act and will help communities develop an action plan to ensure their rights. St. Patrick's Day party set

The Soldotna Senior Center will host a St. Patrick's Day community celebration dinner and entertainment at 5:30 p.m. March 17. A traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner will all the trimmings will be served. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children 10 years old and younger. Tickets may be purchased at the senior center, Sweeney's Clothing and the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce.
