ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A 14-year-old boy was killed over the weekend when his snowmachine went off a 20-foot drop near the Tokositna River, the Alaska State Troopers say.

Britton Erickson of Chugiak died Saturday evening while snowmachining with his family, troopers said. A cornice broke off a ledge, causing the snowmachine to fall and land on top of the youth, troopers said.

The accident occurred near Mile 133 of the Parks Highway in the vicinity of the Tokositna Lodge.

Troopers said their investigation was continuing.
