FAIRBANKS (AP) -- The Central Collegiate Hockey Association has honored the head hockey coach at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The association named Guy Gadowsky the 2001-2002 Coach of the Year.

Gadowsky is in the third year at the helm for the Nanooks. He is in Detroit this weekend with his team, competing in the CCHA Super Six at Joe Lewis Arena.

He was honored at a banquet Thursday night.

In a preseason poll, Gadowsky's squad was picked to finish last in the conference. But he guided the Nanooks to a 15-10-and-3 conference record.
