Betty Jean (Button) Walton-McElroy
Soldotna resident Betty Jean "Button" Walton-McElroy died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at her home. She was 33.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at the Curry Funeral Home in Dyersburg, Tenn. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg. Pallbearers included Michael Chase, Jeff French, Faron Cruz, Steve Patterson, Jimmy Permenter, Charlie Pace, Jason Walton and Marvin Permenter.
Miss Walton-McElroy was born July 17, 1971, in Dyersburg. She joined the U.S. Navy on July 27, 1992, and served for three years as a machinist mate until receiving her honorable discharge Jan. 27, 1995. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
"She adored animals and kids and was loved by them in return. The most important thing in her life was her children and even though disabled, she lived vicariously through them daily. She loved being part of a large family and would have enjoyed them to live closer to her. Those who knew her well will remember her kind heart and beautiful smile. She will be greatly missed and will be in our hearts forever," her family said.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Zetty Walton and Virgie Permenter.
She is survived by her daughter, Quiana Dianne of Soldotna; son, Malyq David McElroy of Soldotna; mother and step-father, Dianne and Dennis Ireland of Soldotna; father and step-mother, Leonard and Patricia Walton of Dresden, Tenn.; brothers, Josh Ireland of Soldotna, Victor Walton of Newbern, Tenn. and Junior Walton of Dresden; grandfather, Perry Permenter of McKenzie, Tenn.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Redoubt Elementary School.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
