Pictured above are elders of the Kenaitze Indian Tribe and children from Kenaitze Cuya Qyut’anen Head Start having a Teddy Bear Tea on Feb. 14 at the Kenaitze Head Start Family House in Kenai. The tea focused on health and tradition by sharing salmon and berries like the diet of a Kenai Peninsula bear. The children made gifts to share with the elders, and each child was presented with a teddy bear by an elder. The celebration included story-telling by Clare Swan, a Kenaitze Tribe elder, and music accompanied by Ed and Carol Ness, Maggie Jones and Wanda Reams. The children sang “You Are My Sunshine” in Dena’ina and English. The Nesses performed the “Teddy Bear Picnic” song.
