Palmer, Fairbanks girls to represent state at national spelling bee

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Two 14-year-old girls will represent Alaska at the national spelling bee in Washington, D.C. in May.

Ruth Hulbert of Palmer Middle School won the 2000 Alaska Spelling Bee Tuesday at the Wendy Williamson auditorium in Anchorage.

She joins Lillian Mandregan of Fairbanks who won the Interior contest earlier this month. Mandregan attends Randy Smith Middle School.
