Assistance for Census 2000 being offered

Assistance is available at the following Census 2000 Questionnaire Assistance Centers through today:

Sterling Senior Center, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Soldotna Public Library, 3 to 8 p.m.

Kenai Community Library, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kasilof Mercantile, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Anchor River Inn, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Homer Senior Center, noon to 3 p.m.

Telephone assistance is available at 1-800-471-9424 or on the Internet at www.2000.census.gov. All assistance is, by law, confidential.

United Way Campaign to honor volunteers

The Kenai Peninsula United Way Board of Directors invites the public to join in honoring the 1999 cabinet team and volunteers today at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Refreshments and entertainment by the Skyview High School Jazz Combo.

St. Patrick's Day parade set for Friday

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce is holding a St. Patrick's Day parade Friday at 4:30 p.m. The parade begins at Bailey's Furniture parking lot and goes along the Spur Highway to Smith Way (just before the "Y" intersection).

Anyone interested in participating in the parade is asked to be in the Bailey's parking lot by 4 p.m. for parade lineup. For more information, contact the chamber at 262-9814.

Dinner planned by Soldotna chamber

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce invites the public to attend the ninth annual Soldotna St. Patrick's Day dinner Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Soldotna Sports Center. A family-style Irish dinner of corned beef and cabbage is $10 for adults and $5 for children. A limited number of tickets are available at the chamber office. Following dinner will be an Irish auction.

A fireworks display by Fireart By Griz is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. at the Soldotna Little League fields. For more information, contact the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, 262-9814.

Parks offers commercial orientation program

On Saturday, the Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation will conduct an orientation program for all persons intending to conduct commercial operations within the Kenai River Special Management Area during the 2000 season. All new commercial operators must attend one of the scheduled orientation sessions. Other operators who attended a session last year are welcome to attend if desired.

Other sessions will be held April 8, May 13 and June 2. The sessions will be held at the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly Chambers from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, contact Suzanne Fisler, Kenai River Center, 260-4882.

Crohns and colitis support group to meet

The Crohns and colitis support group will meet at the Kenai Peninsula Borough Building Conference Room A on March 23 at 6 p.m. For more information, contact Jeana Rossi, 260-3664.

Soldotna seniors plan dinner to raise funds

The Soldotna Senior Center is having a fund-raiser dinner at 5:30 p.m. March 25 to help pay for their new van. Tickets for an evening of food, music, story-telling and dancers are available at the door and cost $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12.
