KETCHIKAN (AP) -- The vote keeps changing on a $5 cruise ship head tax in Cordova.
First the vote was too close to call. Then absentee ballots counted Tuesday had the initiative winning by one vote. Thursday, a recount of ballots showed the numbers reversed and the initiative failing by one vote, 323 in favor of it and 324 against, KRBD radio reported.
According to City Clerk Dixie Lambert, Cordova's election board hand counted 647 ballots.
Lambert said it appears the committee miscounted ballots the first time.
Cordova's city council is scheduled to meet Monday (March 19) to certify the recount.
Cordova voters went to the polls March 6 in a general election.
