FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A University of Alaska Fairbanks student believed to have fled the state after he was accused of sexually assaulting a female student was arrested Wednesday night.
Joseph Heard, 19, was arrested when he answered the door at a Fairbanks apartment, Alaska State Troopers said.
Heard, a former Fort Wainwright soldier, is charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault after he allegedly had sex with a 26-year-old UAF student who was intoxicated beyond the point of making rational decisions.
The alleged sexual assault occurred at Heard's dorm room at about 8 a.m. March 4. A $25,000 warrant for his arrest was issued March 9 because he was considered a flight risk, according to the criminal complaint.
