FAIRBANKS (AP) -- Senior Matt Emmons of the University of Alaska Fairbanks has added another national title as he rounds out his college career. UAF freshman Jamie Beyerle also earned her first individual collegiate championship Friday.

Those achievements came as the UAF team dominated the first day of competition at the National Collegiate Athletic Association championships at West Point, N.Y.

Emmons became the first shooter in NCAA history to win the smallbore title three consecutive years. He broke his own record with a winning score of 1,191 out of 1,200 points.

Behind him, four more Nanooks finished among the top ten.

Beyerle scored 395 out of a possible 400 to capture the air rifle event, beating teammate Per Sandberg by one point.

The Nanooks are shooting for their fifth straight national championship and sixth since 1994 in the team competition.
