Hakkinen finishes 35th in pursuit

Kasilof biathlete Jay Hakkinen finished 35th in a 12.5-kilometer World Cup pursuit on Saturday in Oslo, Norway. Hakkinen started the race in 43rd and moved up while accumulating three penalties in tricky shooting conditions.

Team Alaska wins Junior Olympics

On Saturday at Kincaid Park in Anchorage, Team Alaska won its first Junior Olympics since 2002 with the help of Kailey Mucha of Soldotna, Molly Watkins of Kenai and Skyview graduate Erick Romig.

In Friday's 15-kilometer Older Junior classical mass start, Romig finished 34th with a time of 42 minutes, 10.1 seconds. In the Junior 1 10-kilometer Junior 1 girls race, Mucha finished 11th in 31:53.7 while Watkins was 60th in 35:20.7.

In Saturday's relay races, Mucha was on a team that finished ninth and Romig was on a team that finished eighth.
