SITKA (AP) -- John E. Lucas, 55, of Sitka and Michael E. Eells, 45, of Port Alexander were arraigned Thursday on drug trafficking charges.

Sitka police served search warrants on the men's boats and arrested them Wednesday. Police seized more than $13,000 worth of cocaine and heroin, along with $8,000 in cash. They impounded the two boats, which they estimate are worth $15,000 each.

Sitka police said the arrests were the result of a three-month investigation by detectives from Sitka, the FBI and Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs.

Magistrate Bruce Horton granted District Attorney Richard Svobodny's request for $25,000 bail each for the men. Svobodny said both had prior convictions and presented a flight risk.
