Nikiski Resident Justin Allen Meireis died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. He was 19.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at North Star United Methodist Church in Nikiski. Pastor John Henry will officiate. Mr. Meireis's ashes will be scattered in the Kenai River this spring.
Meireis was born Sept. 22, 1980, in Soldotna to Ronald and Teresa (Berry) Meireis.
He lived in Nikiski until age 5, when he moved to Wikieup, Ariz. At 16, he returned to Nikiski. He graduated from Nikiski High School in 1998.
After graduating, he worked as a welder on the Alpine job for Alaska Petroleum Contractors.
He was a member of the North Star United Methodist Church in Nikiski. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
"The amount of support from family and friends has been so overwhelming," Meireis's family said. "The family cannot express their appreciation in words."
Meireis is survived by his father, Ron, of Nikiski; mother, Teresa, of Wikieup; brother, Robert of Nikiski; fiancee, Amber Demars, of Nikiski; grandmothers, Marian R. Berry, of Arizona and Elaine A. Meireis of Wichita, Kan.; grandfather, Robert Berry, of Wichita; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Meireis's fiancee, Amber Demars, at P.O. Box 8396, Nikiski, AK 99635.
